A photographer of the unusual is shaken by something in his latest photos that he has never seen before.
On this page, you’ll find the podcast episode trailer and the full episode.
And of course, a link to the source, the short story.
[Video description: Duration is 37 seconds. A scan of a watercolor painting of a man sitting at his desk in an office. His hands are clasped before his face and his elbows rest on the chair arms. He is looking down at the surface of his desk, on which lies a camera, a magnifying glass, an open envelope, and a few scattered pictures under the light of a lamp. In the far corner is a filing cabinet and a coat rack with a coat and hat hung on it. Behind him is a window with the blinds drawn and a waste basket. The image is still. Throughout the video there is text. “Podcast Episode” displays mid-screen, with the story’s genre, “Mystery” below it. The words vanish, replaced by the story’s title, “Unstable Stones.” The story’s title vanishes partway through. Subtitles appear in time with the narration at the bottom of the screen. The subtitles read, “They found the children almost a mile away in a small vale. They boys were trying to revive their sister who had fallen into a deep sleep. All around them was dead quiet. Nothing cheeped. Nothing chirped. Dead birds and insects littered the forest floor.” The website URL appears at the bottom and fades only at the very end. At the video’s end, a text box appears over the image with the words “Listen on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, and so on. Or listen on my Podcast page at storyfeather.com.”]
Cell phone cameras don’t work for many miles outside of the perimeter that the common lore has designated the “certain death zone” (or CDZ).
