Tomorrow’s Train Today

A young man boards a train to visit family, only to learn he is a day late for his visit, but just in time to suffer disaster.

This story is from Year 8, The Year of Revisitation
I revisit one of the stories I’ve already written, and write a new standalone story connected to or inspired by the existing one through a character, a place, an object, a continuation of events (okay, sequel), and so on.

Music: “Investigation day” by Dark Fantasy Studio

I once wrote a story about a woman on the subway who missed her stop and ended up arriving at the previous day. In this new story, somewhat the opposite happens. A young man thinks he’s just in time to catch his train, but then someone tells him what day it is. It’s tomorrow. He thinks he’s somehow just lost track of the days, but when he ends up surviving a disaster on tomorrow’s train, he realizes something strange is happening.

[Video Description: Trailer. Duration, 37 seconds. Music: “Investigation day” by Dark Fantasy Studio. Digital drawing. View down the middle of a train car. Several seats are visible, but only two are occupied. On far right, a young man is asleep, his left elbow propped on the window edge, his head resting in his hand. His other hand lies on his lap, holding an object that looks like a cell phone. It’s dark outside the windows. On far left, an older man with a table attachment folded up, holds a cup of coffee in his right hand. His left arm and hand are curled around a briefcase that lies on the table. He’s glancing to his left. It’s bright outside the windows. At center, standing in the aisle is the same young man who’s seen sleeping. He is surrounded by a glowing light. His arms hang by his side. He’s still holding his cell phone. His expression looks scared. The words “Short Story” and “Genre: Mystery” are displayed in front of the image. The story title is displayed at the bottom. The title card and title fade and lines from the story appear in the middle: “A man laughed and said, ‘Just shuffle the cards.’ My heart skipped a beat. I saw a bright flash of light. I heard an intense, painful screech. The train car lurched. People screamed, and then—I woke with a jolt.” The title appears again at bottom as the last line spins away. A watermark of the site URL appears at bottom right throughout.]
