That’s why I stopped searching for someone who could speak to the dead, and started searching for someone who could read the living…and see if there are any psychic clues to what happened, residual energy radiating off the objects or furniture. No one else will investigate what’s been marked a ‘death by natural causes.’ What’s natural about a man in his thirties just…?” Animations: Radiant lines pulse up from the form on the ground at the words “residual energy radiating.” Site URL appears at bottom center throughout and fades at end. Welcome to Year 10 of Storyfeather
Every year’s short stories (mostly) follow a theme. For the tenth year, every month’s stories share a genre or theme, some anchor point that the reader can rely on. But within that, there are strange concoctions brewing. The genre’s merge, archetypes collide, mythologies mash…welcome to the Year of Fusion.
March Base Element:
🔍🕵🏽♀️ MYSTERY MARCH! 🗝🧩
Base element for March: Mystery
Fusion Element: Hmm…it’s a spoiler, so I’ll hide it in an accordion.
The premise for this story started with a psychic warning the authorities that a number of recent tragic deaths attributed to unexpected yet natural causes are actually the work of a serial killer using an untraceable murder weapon. But as I brainstormed the idea, particularly about how the clues would be discovered, I decided to start simple, with one person, still in the midst of grief, going to a psychic in the desperate hope of getting some kind of answers about why a person she loved died a sudden death.

How I did the digital drawing for my story, “The Strange Radiant Death,” from a sketch to the final image.
Video description: Drafting of story image from Sketch to Final. Duration, 21 seconds. Digital drawing. A woman with blue hair, blue shirt and vest, and blue boots, crouches down with her hands braced on the ground. She looks down at the hazy translucent human figure lying on the floor in front of her. Radiant lines emanate up from the figure on the floor in the same hue as the floor and the wall. Text at bottom reads “Digital Drawing for Short Story.” A fade animation displays a pencil sketch of a human outline at center. The words “Sketch to Final Drawing” appears at top right. All the text and the final image fade to show the full starting sketch. The video then transitions through several images showing the sketching of the main figures; then the inking, the laying down of base colors, the addition of a color gradient as a background, and finally, the addition of shadows, highlights, and textures to arrive at the final image. The story title, “The Strange Radiant Death” appears at bottom. A watermark of “Storyfeather.com” appears at bottom center throughout.
