The Sandalwood God

Three children are determined to find out if the tales they’ve heard are true…that there is a god living in the middle of the forest outside their village.

This story is from Year 8, The Year of Revisitation
I revisit one of the stories I’ve already written, and write a new standalone story connected to or inspired by the existing one through a character, a place, an object, a continuation of events (okay, sequel), and so on.

Music: “Exploration_Mystical Place (loop 1)” by Albert Fernandez

In this story, I’m revisiting the first story I ever posted on the site, “The Amber God.”  I spoil what happens in that first story in this new one, but it can’t be helped, I say.

[Video Description: Trailer. Duration, 41 seconds. Music: “Exploration_Mystical Place (loop 1)” by Albert Fernandez. Digital drawing. Three faces depicting the same young adult person with slightly different hair and eye colors. The hair is mid-length and wavy. The face at center faces and looks forward with mouth slightly parted. Below and to the right the central face, the same face is turned slightly away from center, but with eyes turned toward center. Above and to the left of the central face, the same face is again turned slightly away, but with eyes turned toward center. The faces are surrounding by a misty glow. Behind the faces, vines or branches bearing leaves, faint lightning and rain, spread across the background. Title card with the words “Short Story” and “Genre: Mythology” are displayed in front of the image. At bottom is the title. The title card and title fade. Lines from the story appear over the image: “A tale was told about that time, about a man living in the middle of the forest in a stone hut that smelled of amber.  And another man coming to challenge him.  A great storm fell upon the land, but the villagers say it was caused by a great battle in the skies between the two men, who were actually gods.  When it was over, the hut in the forest began to smell of sandalwood.” Animations of lightning strikes and sounds of thunder play when prompted by the text. The title reappears at bottom. A watermark of the site URL appears at bottom center throughout.]

Genre: Mythology

Portal Button. Elongated rectangle with rings of colored light emanating from the center. Text appears over the rings, reading "Storyfeather Year 8" and below it in larger font, "Revisitation."
