That is, we’re able to see them. These things are microscopic, and they look like parasitic worms. But they’ve been sowing a different kind of chaos in each host, which made it difficult at first to determine whether or not all of these people even have the same infection.” Site URL appears at bottom center throughout and fades at end. The title appears at center. A text card appears at top that reads “Available to Read Now.”
Welcome to Year 10 of Storyfeather
Every year’s short stories (mostly) follow a theme. For the tenth year, every month’s stories share a genre or theme, some anchor point that the reader can rely on. But within that, there are strange concoctions brewing. The genre’s merge, archetypes collide, mythologies mash…welcome to the Year of Fusion.

FUSION RECIPE
Base element for April: The Fae (Fairies)
Fusion Element: Paper cut and parasite
I started my brainstorm with the paper cut. It happens when someone is filing stuff away. I’ve had this exact paper cut, on the back of my finger, because I accidentally brushed against the edge of some papers. But luckily for me, I did not thereafter wake up to find bright pink lines radiating from the cut, and orange liquid oozing out that is definitely not blood. Not human blood anyway.
How I did the digital drawing for my story, “The Parasitic Fairy Worm,” from a sketch to the final image.
