Video Description: “The Day That Words Transformed” Trailer. Duration, 42 seconds. “Between Two Worlds” by Nicholas Jeudy. Digital drawing. Top center, a face seen from nose to chin with mouth wide open. Two small rocks tumble from the bottom lip. Larger rocks and stones hang below the chin, scattering out. Amid the rocks float feathers of different colors. Three wasps hover among the stones and feathers. Title card with the words “Short Story” and “Genre: Fantasy,” is displayed at top. Tagline is displayed at bottom. It reads: “A man discovers that all his words are turning to stones that choke or rocks that rip his throat, and his only hope for rescue is a timid boy.” Title card and tagline fade. A watermark of the word “storyfeather” appears over the image. Lines from the story appear in sequence in different positions: “This time something else flew out. Something black and yellow and hotly thrumming. A wasp darted out of the man’s mouth. And another. And a third. The wasps all landed on his bedcovers and slowly crawled in no particular direction.” Site URL appears at bottom center throughout and fades at end. As the last line disappears, the story title appears at center, and a text card appears at top that reads “Available to Read Now storyfeather.com.” Animation: The word “words” in the title vanishes as a wasp appears hovering for a while before it vanishes and the word “words” reappears.
Welcome to Year 10 of Storyfeather
Every year’s short stories (mostly) follow a theme. For Year Ten, every month’s stories share a genre or theme, some anchor point that the reader can rely on. But within that, there are strange concoctions brewing. The genre’s merge, archetypes collide, mythologies mash…welcome to the Year of Fusion.

FUSION RECIPE.
Base elements for December: Magic, specifically, a magic word.
Fusion Element: Curses and stones.
This story started with the concept of someone who’s cursed so that every one of their words becomes a stone at the back of their throat. So if they try to speak they will choke or the stone will fall into their stomach. And what if this person had no other means of communication?
