[Video description: 45 seconds. Digital drawing. Central figure, an astronaut seen from mid-thigh and up, wearing a light space suit but no helmet. She is looking forward, face seen in three-quarters view with left brow raised. Left arm is bent in front of the body. Right arm is raised with elbow bent and fingers flourished. Some icy material appears to be surrounding the right hand. The space suit has protruding pockets on the left thigh, and a design on the chest plate made of various geometric shapes. Behind the astronaut, from upper right to lower left, is a flow of shimmering light. Watermark of the word “storyfeather” lays over the image. Title card with the words “Podcast Episode” and “Genre: Mystery” and story title are displayed over the image. The title and title card fade. Subtitles appear in time with music and narration at the bottom: ‘Agreed about the you assuming command part, but if I may make a suggestion, I think the wisest course of action is to make sure that nothing else gets in the ship, and that I—and that everything in this airlock, gets out. We’ll have to break away from the asteroid’s gravity, and then some. It’s not safe to use any physical tethers I think. So I’ll have to make sure I’m pointed toward Angrboda and fall toward her once you open the airlock.’ Nomi nodded. ‘I’ll take it under consideration. I’ll get back to you within the half-hour.’ She quickly turned and walked away. Major Holmes stepped up toward the window. ‘Well that was unexpected,’ she said.” Website URL appears at bottom left throughout and fades as text box appears over image displaying the words, “Listen on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, iHeartRadio, Spotify, Stitcher, and so on. Or listen on my Podcast page at storyfeather.com.” Title reappears at top.]
Mission ICE 19 – Storyfeather
Episode Released: 21 January 2022
EXCERPT:
I heard someone calling…calling to me.
“Captain?”
Is it the voice of the woman on the other side of the airlock window?
“Captain!”
Or is it the voice of the ghost that’s trying to possess me?
“Captain…”
BEHIND THE “SCENES”
The asteroid in this story is named “Angrboða,” after a jötunn (or giantess) from Norse mythology who is Loki’s mate and the mother of some infamous monsters. I was inspired to give the asteroid a forbidding name by one of my favorite computer games from youth (which I can’t recall if I ever finished), “The Dig.” In the game, a small group of astronauts goes to investigate an asteroid named “Attila.”
