I Surgery

On this page, you’ll find the podcast episode trailer and the full episode.
And of course, a link to the source, the short story.

[Video description: 58 seconds. Image description: Digital drawing. At center, three apples in a row. The middle one, slightly in front of the others, appears to be a regular red apple. The one at left has the same silhouette, but looks flat and is broken into several geometric shapes colored bright green or two different shades of red. The one at right is split into three ghostly afterimages. They are just floating before a background with colors that suggest sky and grass. Watermark of the word “storyfeather” lays over the image. Title card with the words“ Podcast Episode” and “Genre: Science Fiction” and story title are displayed over the image. The title and title card fades. Subtitles appear in time with music and narration at the bottom: “I was about to put my life and future completely in the hands of strangers. And all for a procedure that I didn’t need to have. Even my daughter, who had pushed for me to get the transplant surgery, had changed her mind after she heard the doctor explain all the steps involved. She had asked more questions than I had. She had challenged the doctor in ways I wouldn’t have dared. She asked if it would hurt me. For how long. What side effects would there be? What medications would I need to take and for how long? Could my native eyes be put back if the donor ones didn’t work? How long did it take to determine if donor eyes were working properly? What if it made my life worse? What was the worst reaction I might have to the donor eyes? Could I die?” Website URL appears at bottom right throughout and fades as text box appears over image displaying the words, “Listen on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, iHeartRadio, Spotify, Stitcher, and so on. Or listen on my Podcast page at storyfeather.com.” Title reappears at top.]

EXCERPT:
She says that I have always lived in darkness. But I’m fine with it. I don’t need the light. I don’t even necessarily want the light. I’m not doing this for me.

I’m doing this for her. Because she wants me to see the world the way she sees it.
