Story Scroll and Sidebar

The old homepage from top to bottom. The sidebar once contained a link to each story, grouped by year.

Starts at top of homepage, then scrolls all the way down, past the most recent ten posts and their excerpts, and continuing down through empty space in the main column, and all the story links in the side column, until reaching the bottom of the page, and then zooming all the way back up to the top, then going slightly down again to hover over some links in the sidebar.

Story Post:
“River Fisher and Blue Dragon”

An example of what a story post page used to look like.

Portal Page

This landing page was introduced in 2021 to highlight the latest stories, podcast episodes, and site features. The concept of jumping into portals to enter the world of a story informed the design of the link buttons.

Video description

Screen capture video. 4 seconds. Starts at top of Portals landing page and scrolls down to bottom, quickly showing the contents, Portal buttons (long horizontal rectangular images with story image, title, and tagline) for the most recent short stories and podcast episodes, buttons that go to the merchandise store, the online course, and the trailers page, a podcast embed that can play the three most recent podcast episodes, and a button that links back to the homepage.

Key Page:
“The Arcanomen”

When new trailers replaced older ones on the Trailers page, I needed a place to put the older trailers. I decided to create a page for each story where I could put the trailer. As time went on, I could add other information, media, etc. related to that story. For example, the trailer and links of the story’s future podcast episode.

Screen capture video. 8 seconds. Starts near top of Year Nine hub page, clicks portal button for story entitled, “The Arcanomen,” jumps to the Key page for the story, which contains the trailer, a link to the story post, and some background information about the writing of the story. Scrolls down and back up the page.

Year Eight Hub Page

Starting in 2021, for each year’s stories, I created a page that would serve as hub leading to all the stories. I put the Portal buttons for each story on this page, leading to the Key page for each story. And a little flag leading directly to the story post, for those who want to get straight to reading the story.
