Before an astronaut sets out on his first mission to explore space, space comes down to greet him.
On this page, you’ll find the podcast episode trailer and the full episode.
And of course, a link to the source, the short story.
[Video description: Duration is 26 seconds. Scanned watercolor painting. A man in full protective hazard gear stands in the center, approaching an object seen in the bottom right corner. It appears to be a meteorite with glowing purple patches. A camera on a tripod is set up against the far wall and pointed toward the object. Right behind the man, on the ground is a sample carrier. Far behind him, in the left third of the image are men in suits, one of them on a walkie talkie, the other bent down and pulling up a hazard suit. They stand beside the open door of a hangar or warehouse. In the distance, a city scape and people waiting behind a barricade are visible. “Podcast Episode” displays mid-screen, with the “Genre: Science Fiction” below it. The words fade away, replaced by the story’s title, “Gliese on Earth.” The title retreats and fades away. Subtitles appear in time with narration at the bottom of the screen: “The pod had landed on Earth. In the very city that was the current capitol. It had waited, sleeping and floating around and around for centuries, until humanity was ready to receive it.” The website URL appears at the bottom and fades only at the very end. At the video’s end, a text box appears over the image displaying the words, “Listen on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, and so on. Or listen on my Podcast page at storyfeather.com.”]

Gliese on Earth – Storyfeather
EXCERPT:
I reached out to the meteorite, a rocky mass with atypical glowing purple patches, knowing it might be the last thing I ever did on Earth.
It didn’t crash. It landed. It landed in a specific place.
Right in the middle of a major metropolitan area.
